The Bechdel test

So this is probably way old news to a lot of you. I’m actually surprised I hadn’t come across it yet. But for those of you who haven’t, it’s pretty interesting.

The Bechdel test is used to check films for gender bias. It’s pretty simple. To pass the test, a film must have

  1. At least two women
  2. who speak to each other
  3. about something other than men

You think it’d be easy enough, but a lot of films fail it. Even those with a large female cast. The last Harry Potter movie failed it, as none of the female characters have a conversation. So yeah, go forth and check it out.
